A B1-B Lancer bomber connects with and receives fuel from a KC-10 Extender over the Indian Ocean prior to a bombing sortie into Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. Both aircraft are from the 28th Air Expeditionary Wing. In response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 at the New York World Trade Center and the Pentagon, President George W. Bush initiated Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), fighting terrorism abroad.
